I’m still alive!!
After almost a year of no entries I’m finally back in blogging action. We all know the crew lost a heartbreaker to the Cards and now the series is a loss as well. I’m still not worried…..when Braun and Fielder get hot this team will rock and roll! We need to take tomorrows game!! What do you think?
Here we are….
Here we are at the All-star break and the Brewers are 4.5 games in front of the scrubbies in first place. If you would have asked me in February where I thought the Brewers would be at the All-star break I probably would’ve guessed 4 to 5 games above .500 and in the top three places in the N.L. central. I won’t complain about being 10 games above .500 and in first place by a comfortable margin. I’m still a little disappointed at the Brewers final road trip. They went 3-7 and did so against the Cubs, Pirates and Nationals. Walking away from Chicago only taking 1 out of 3 games didn’t surprise me because of the way the scrubs have been playing the last month and a half. But losing 3 out of 4 against the Pirates and 2 out of 3 against the Nationals is inexcusable. If the Crew expect to clinch the division they NEED to WIN ON THE ROAD! Hopefully the team will get plenty of rest over the break and come back and kick some serious butt. I’d love to see our lead increase to 7.5 games again! Congrats to Prince Fielder, JJ Hardy, Fransisco Cordero and Ben Sheets for making the All-star game. Hopefully the N.L. will whip the A.L. for a change. 10-4 and Go Brewers!
What’s up with Weeks?
What in the world is going on with Rickey Weeks? He is doing terrible and every one of his at bats lately remind me of my little girl killing flies with the fly swatter….she always misses. He is batting .223/5hr/19rbi. I understand he has been injured for a little while but he looks so out of rhythm it’s not even funny. I agree with the other Brewer bloggers who think the Brewers should send him to AAA and let Graffanino and Counsell platoon at second. At least until Rickey gets comfortable again and finds his swing. Your thoughts? 10-4 and Go Brewers!
Nats 5-Brewers 4
The Brewers lost a close one tonight in Washington D.C. The good news is that it seems that Prince has found his power swing that he’s missed for the past couple of weeks by clubbing 2 homers. Ryan Braun and Estrada also hit homers for the Brewers but it still wasnt enough for the win. Jeff Suppan started out nicely by allowing only 1 hit through the first 4 innings. Things fell apart in the 5th when he let up 5 hits and 4 runs. Suppan has struggled lately and through just 5 innings tonight this was his linescore; 5IP, 6H, 4R, 4er, 5bb, 3so. His ERA is now a plump 5. The Crew really needs this guy to get back on track. Tommorrow it will be Chris Capuano taking the mound for the Brewers. Here is his chance to shine….we really need to win tommorrow. 10-4 and Go Brewers!
C’mon Soup!!! Your getting paid way too much to be sporting a 5.00era!
Unbelievable!! Thats all I can say about Ryan Braun….this guy could potentially be a .340/45hr/130rbi machine for the Brewers for a long time to come!!
I’m Back…
Sorry it’s been so long since my last post. The Army sometimes consumes much of my time. I’ve got some time now so I figured we’d pick up where we left off. Much has happened for the Brewers since my last post. I’ll start with the good since I’m an optimistic person. Ryan Braun and Corey Hart continue to tear the hide off the ball. They are both batting over .300 with Braun hitting .342 and Hart is hitting .308. Braun has hit his tenth homer in just 155 at-bats. At this rate he’d hit about 40 homers and 100+rbi’s in a full season barring injury or diminished playing time. Hart is settling in well at the lead-off position and I believe he has plenty enough speed to be our lead-off guy for a long time to come. Now the not-so-good news. The Brewers are 3-4 since my last post and they lost 3 out of 4 to the lowly Pirates. I know the Brewers historically struggled against the Pirates but then again the Brewers historically struggled against most teams in the past because of the lack of talent. If the Crew wants to win the pennant they have to win on the road…period. The scrubs are getting hot and making me nervous. The Crew has 2 games left against the Nationals and it would be awesome to see them take a series on the road to finish the first half. On a different note, Ned Yost placed Yovanni Gallardo in the bullpen and kept Bush and Vargas in the rotation. His reason was that he didn’t want Gallardo to log more innings this year than last year because it could injure him. C’mon Ned! You can technically complete an inning with 3 pitches…very unlikely, but it could happen. It doesn’t make sense to me. Yovanni has been a starter his whole life and I’m afraid it might mess with his head going to the bull pen. He rocked as a starter and gave the Brewers a chance to win every game he pitched. His first bullpen appearance was anything but solid. He just didn’t look comfortable as a reliever. But then I remember Carlos Villanueva struggling in his first couple of bull-pen appearances this year and he settled in nicely. Ned is the baseball expert so I guess I’ll put my trust in him and hope the move is the right one. The Crew play the Nats tonight in D.C. and they must win in order to clinch the 3 game series. 10-4 and Go Brewers!!
Oh No!! Scrubs Win Scrubs Win!!
In a most unlikely situation the Chicago Cubs got the best of Fransisco Cordero and scored 3 runs in the bottom of the ninth, to take the lead and the game away from the Brewers. Gallardo pitched a great game, Mench hit a 3-run homer, and the Brewers were leading 5-3 into the bottom of the ninth. I was at work during the game and had the play-by-play on my computer. When I saw Cordero coming on in the 9th and the Crew leading by 2 runs I left my computer to work on something else…thinking the Crew will win. I was quite shocked and disappointed when I came back and saw the final score. What could anyone do? Cordero leads the majors with 27 saves…I think he should get the ball anytime there is a save situation. He has gotten the Crew out of some serious jams this year. Apparently his slider wasn’t breaking like it usually does. He hung one on Aramis Ramirez with one on and 2 outs and Ramirez hit it out of the park. I’m not worried, Cordero will be back. Besides, Ben Sheets is taking the mound today. I’ve said it over and over, Sheets is our stopper. Go Brewers and 10-4!
Brewers continue to Roll!!
I haven’t posted a blog in a while…sorry. Lets catch up, the Brewers whipped the Royals on Saturday 7-1 and Bush looked really good for the Crew. On Sunday, however, the Brewers lost a heart breaker in the 11th inning to the Royals by a score of 3-4. Let it be known that Yovanni Gallardo pitched an awesome game by pitching 7 innings and striking out 8! It was a tough loss and the kind that can sometimes take the wind out of a teams sails. The wind is obviously still blowing in Milwaukee because the Crew clobbered the Astros by a score of 6-1!
Prince Fielder hit his 27th home run (his first in a week).
JJ Hardy also hit a home run, making it 18 for JJ.
Ben Sheets once again shut down the enemy by notching his 9th win on the season. He improved his record to 9-3….All-star this year? Sheets wasn’t dominating like he can be but he did pitch 6 innings, 5 hits, 5 Ks, and let up 1 run. Villanueva pitched the 7th and struck out 2 while allowing no hits or walks. Carlos is another one of those quiet winners, he’s quietly putting together a heck of a season. Turnbow turned it around after blowing the lead in Sundays game against the Royals. He pitched the 8th tonight and struck out 2 while allowing no hits or walks. Lets get ‘em again tomorrow Brew-crew!! 10-4 and Go Brewers!
Brewers 11-Royals 6
Sooo close. Ryan Braun went 4-4 today and missed the cycle by only a triple. Is anyone doubting his talent now? Corey Hart is also still tearing it up by hitting a 3 run homer. The crew won their 4th straight game and improved their record to 42-31…..11 games over .500! Sorry this entry is so shrt but I gotta run. 10-4 and Go Brewers!!
Brewers sweep Giants!!
Brewers swept the Giants today by beating them with a score of 7-5. Bill Hall helped out by hitting a first inning grand slam off Barry Zito. Hall is starting to come around and it’s about time. We really missed his bat and it’s been nice to see him smacking line-drives and seeing pitches. Claudio Vargas picked up his 6th win and Cordero notched his Major League leading save (27). Bonds didnt hit a homerun at all while the Giants were in Milwaukee, although he did earn a few walks and base hits. Next on the menu is former Brewer, and now Royal, Jorge De LaRosa to face Jeff Suppan on Friday. Soup needs a good outing since he’s lost his last few games and been knocked around a bit. Great Win today!! 10-4 and Go Brewers!!
Odd man out?
The question that everyone is asking is who will be the odd man out? When Cappy comes off the DL someone will have to be moved. I personally think that Doug Melvin may have something brewing behind the scenes. Lets face it, Gwynn was sent down to get regular playing time (while hitting .301 in limited playing time) and Gallardo was sent up to replace Capuano. It seems maybe there is more to this than just getting Gwynn some regular at bats. Maybe Gwynn was sent down to get used to playing regularly. I wouldnt be surprised if the Brewers swung a deal and unjammed the outfield and then call Gwynn back up to be the primary back-up outfielder. He has too much talent not to be in the majors. I guess I see their point and he’s too valuable to sit and not play. What about the rotation? If Gallardo is the real deal and pitches like he did last night I dont think he’ll be sent down again. Bush has been struggling and Vargas is a free agent after this season. Many teams would love to have Vargas but I dont think the Crew will let him go. He’s done a good job this year and has the amazing ability to get out of serious jams…hence the nickname "magic man." I’ve got a gut feeling Bush or Vargas will go to the pen and Spurling will either be traded or sent down. Gallardo will stay in the rotation. Here’s who I think is on the trading block: Kevin Mench, Gabe Gross, Damian Miller, Chris Spurling, and possibly Claudio Vargas. I highly doubt the Brewers will trade all of them but they might over pay to get a solid left handed reliever. Remember, if the Brewers continue playing the way they are they’ll be buyers and not sellers. They could use a Ray King (when he was with the Brewers) style reliever, someone who can eat a lot of innings and give Shouse a break. By the way, lets start a movement to get the Crew to resign Jenkins. I know he’s struggled in the past but today in baseball there are hardly any players that stay with the same team like Robin Yount and Kirby Puckett. I’d love to see Jenkins finish his career in Milwaukee. Your thoughts? 10-4
